Alex & Henry’s Cambridge Wedding

We love a Cambridge wedding (I mean we live here so we are slightly biased!), but we love even more the fusing together of different heritages and Alex and Henry’s saw their British and Slovakian heritage come together for their wedding in their summer wedding.

When you work in the wedding industry, there is no greater honour than when a fellow supplier asks you to be involved with their wedding. I first met Alex’s mum when we booked their hot tub bus for an amazing festival wedding in Cambridge a few years ago as they own Bathing Under the Sky.

To say we had a few challenges to overcome is an understatement, but Alex and Henry took them in their stride. The ceremony from day one was to be held at beautiful Christ’s College Chapel and the reception at another location which had sentimental value to the whole family. With less than 6 weeks to the wedding, with circumstances out of everyone’s control we suddenly had to find a new reception venue that would accept that we already had our catering team booked. We went from an outdoor reception with all night partying to a city centre venue with an enforced 2am finish!

After the ceremony in the beautiful chapel at Christ’s College, guests were invited into the college gardens for a drink and canapés reception before following the happy couple and walking through the busy streets of Cambridge to the Cambridge Union Society to many cheers and also lots of tourists taking photos!

The wedding breakfast consisted of Slovakian dishes made to traditional family recipes and also an amazing tiramisu cake that was served as dessert from Biscotti Di Debora.

During the speeches the guests were all up for joining in with very hearty sized shot glasses filled with Silvovica – a lethal home made spirit made by a family member – how do we know it was lethal? Well, not only did it knock us off our feet when we opened the bottles but it also gave everyone amazing dance moves later on!

The Cambridge Union Society debating chamber provided a great space for the wedding breakfast and late night partying. Even the weather stayed dry so the guests could enjoy the festoon lit courtyard in the evening whilst snacking on the heavenly hangover curing ‘deep fried mac n’ cheese balls’!

In the evening guests partied to the awesome The Swing Ninjas with Alex and Henry showing everyone how it was done followed by a fabulous local DJ, Wayne from Imagine Entertainment.
