Hair & Makeup, Top Tips – Working with a Planner

wedding hair and make up artist

We sometimes hear from brides that on the day they felt that their hair and make-up was rushed or made them late to the wedding.  This is not something that generally happens on weddings we have planned or managed, so we thought we would get some insight from Wedding Hair and Make up Specialist Jenny Buckland who won this years 4 Counties Wedding Awards for “One to Watch”

This is what Jenny had to say:

Your wedding planner will know the best suppliers in the wedding industry having created wonderful working relationships and will choose suppliers who not only compliment your wedding, but who also have excellent knowledge in their field.

A planner will also help you choose a wedding hair and make-up artist who they know will look after the needs of the whole bridal party.  Having chosen the dress, flowers and accessories, now it’s time for your hair and make-up to complete your look for your wedding day.  Hair and make-up needs to be applied with photography in mind yet complimenting a brides individual style.  My approach to bridal hair and make-up is to help brides feel confident and look amazing on their wedding day – after all it’s all eyes on the bride!

Having engaged in meetings with your wedding planner you will have lots of details to share with your hair make-up artist when you have a trial run through of your hair and make-up looks.  I always love to know all the details as this helps me understand more about your special day and how your hair and make-up will fit in with the style of your wedding.  Pictures of your dress, flowers, bridesmaid’s dresses are useful to have at your trial.  If you have them also bring your veil, head piece or tiara to the trial so that they can be placed perfectly within the hair style for you.  I am always really interested in the venue and colour scheme and love hearing about all the details to help you create a suitable hair and make-up look which fits your wedding day.  Keep images of hair and make-up looks to show your artist at your trial.  I am sure you have started a Pinterest board with bridal inspiration already so its always good to add us to your board so we can understand what your like!

Liaising with your wedding planner an itinerary is created for the wedding morning (particularly helpful if you have a lot of Bridesmaids!), which will include timings for all the bridal parties’ hair and make-up to be finished to allow time for photos before you leave for the ceremony.  A planner will also factor in extra time for getting into your dresses and having a moment with family and loved ones before leaving for the ceremony.  I feel there is nothing worse than rushing at the last minute!  Other considerations are having your artist to stay during the wedding day to re-touch your hair and make-up.  This would be useful if you know you will cry during the ceremony.  Having an artist on hand would mean you remained picture perfect whilst having those moments captured throughout the day.  Your wedding planner and artist would work together to ensure that timings allow for any retouches.
